Boy With Frog

BoyWithFrog_TheWhiteReview

My short story Boy With Frog (titled after the Charles Ray sculpture of the same name) was published by The White Review in August, 2016. The story revolves around a young woman, her grandfather and a sculpture. As her grandfather’s health declines, the sculpture becomes a catalyzing presence in their thoughts and conversations. Boy With Frog is a meditation on mortality, art, videogames, and the intimate connection between mind and body. Read it here.

“I think people will have said enough to you about serious things, and so I am going to talk to you about what I feel is valuable, and that people think too little of, about cheerfulness and, something that is part of it as well, not being afraid about problems in life, but finding a natural solution for them.” Sophie Taeuber-Arp, 1937

Jonathan Safran Foer’s novel Tree of Codes is cut out of the original novel The Street of Crocodiles by Bruno Schulz. Although the most time I’ve spent with it was this game of peekaboo.
